H. U. SVERDRUP SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS ISSUE |
|
Participants who presented their papers and posters at the H. U. Sverdrup Symposium, held in Tromsø, 21-24 September 2000, were invited to submit their contributions to the journal Polar Research for potential inclusion in the proceedings issue. The editor thanks Leif Anderson, Bob Dickson, Peter Haugan, Peter Jones, Jens Meincke and others who helped by suggesting potential reviewers. We are especially grateful to the referees themselves. Pieces by Norwegian Minister of the Environment Siri Bjerke and Professor Walter Munk open the issue. Prof. Munk offers some uniquely personal glimpses into Harald Ulrik Sverdrup's life, while the text of Minister Bjerke's speech adopts a political perspective on climate change in the context of the 75th anniversary of the conclusion of the Maud Expedition through the North-East Passage. Fourteen articles follow. Visit Polar Research's website to see the table of contents for this issue, as well as abstracts and PDFs of a selection of complete papers. Go to www.npolar.no/PolarResearch, then to "Polar Research Vols. 11 to 20", then click on "Vol. 20 (2001)", and scroll down to the contents of the Sverdrup issue. If you were a conference participant but didn't receive a complimentary copy of this issue, please notify me and I will put one in the mail to you. Helle Valborg Goldman, PhD |
